Global & Regional Security: Munir Meets Rubio in Germany | Munich Security Conference Highlights (2026)

Field Marshal Asim Munir, the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), engaged in a thought-provoking discussion on global and regional security dynamics with United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio during a visit to Germany. This visit, from February 12th to 14th, coincided with the 62nd Munich Security Conference, providing a strategic backdrop for the meeting.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) highlighted that the conversation delved into matters of mutual interest, including counterterrorism cooperation and the complex interplay of global and regional security dynamics. Field Marshal Munir's interactions extended beyond Rubio, as he met with Germany's Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt, Foreign Policy & Security Policy Adviser Günter Sautter, and Chief of Defence Carsten Breuer. These discussions centered on contemporary security issues, bilateral defense cooperation, and the crucial role of dialogue in fostering global peace and security.

Additionally, Field Marshal Munir had a productive exchange with Brazilian Armed Forces Chief of the Joint Staff Admiral Renato Rodrigues de Aguiar Freire, focusing on bilateral military cooperation. The visit also included a significant meeting with Lebanese Armed Forces Commander Gen Rodolph Haykal, where they discussed the global and regional security situation and strategies to strengthen bilateral defense collaboration.

This international engagement follows a previous visit to Switzerland in January, where Field Marshal Munir and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held informal meetings with world leaders, including Rubio, on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting. The meetings in Switzerland further underscored the CDF's commitment to fostering international relations and addressing global security challenges.
