In a thrilling finale, Lucy Darragh and Alister Reginato, both hailing from Australia, emerged victorious in this prestigious World Surf League (WSL) event. But here's where it gets controversial... Darragh, a 15-year-old sensation, dominated the Australia/Oceania region, claiming her third major QS win in her debut full year. She battled through the ranks, overcoming local hero Sophie Fletcher and the determined Sara Wakita, to face Anon Matsuoka in the final. It was a backhand hook battle, with Darragh's powerful surfing securing her the win.
And this is the part most people miss... Despite Wakita's impressive run, she fell just short of dethroning Minami Nonaka for the No. 3 spot on the Asia QS rankings. Meanwhile, Alister Reginato, a 25-year-old powerhouse, secured his second QS victory and a spot back on the Challenger Series. With his signature power surfing, he defeated Harley Walters in the semis, showcasing an incredible 8.75-point ride. In the final, he faced Tully Wylie, who put up a good fight but ultimately couldn't catch up to Reginato's consistent scoring.
