A significant milestone has been reached in the appeal to save the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, as the community has rallied to support the urgent repairs needed for Bridge 42. The railway has announced that they have raised £130,000 towards the stabilisation of the bridge, which is a crucial step in ensuring the safe operation of the railway for the 2026 season. But here's where it gets controversial... While the temporary solution will allow the railway to run, the total costs to prop up the bridge are estimated at around £250,000, and repairs to the bridge are estimated at around £550,000. This means that there is still a long way to go, and the railway is calling on the public to continue supporting the appeal. The designs for the temporary solution have been completed, and details will be submitted to the relevant environmental authorities for approval.
